Rename from list in Quick File Rename

Quick File Rename allows you to rename from lists that are created by you.

Renaming from a list is useful when you wish to define the exact names you want renamed from, and after.

To create these lists, you can either import them from Excel, or any program, to a CSV format (comma seperated values), and then import them using Quick File Rename.

The custom rule is the rule to use when you want to rename from a list.

Quick File Rename Source List
Create the source rename list
To begin renaming from a list, first import the list containing the names of the source files. Names have to be separated by a newline before you can rename them.

For example, our list on the left contains hello.txt, world.txt and country.txt. These are the source names of the files.

You can generate the contents of the source rename list from Excel or any application that supports CSV.
Quick File Rename DestList
Create the dest rename list
The next step to renaming from a list is to create the list containg the names of the destination files. File names have to be separated by a newline.

The first item on the list is the name that the first item from source.txt will be renamed to, the second item on the list will be the name that the second item from source.txt will be renamed to, and so on.

You can generate the contents of the dest rename list from Excel or any application that supports CSV.
The source file and the dest files above means that you want to rename hello.txt to goodbye.txt, world.txt to universe.txt and country.txt to district.txt. This is a one to one match referring to source.txt and dest.txt

Browse and rename from created lists
Now add the Custom rule and browse to the folder containing the source files. Remember as long as the names match (which is case insensitive), the names will be renamed.

Press the rename button if all looks good.

This is the final step in the rename from list operation.

As an added time saver, you can save the rename from list custom rule as a Ruleset and rename files and folders anytime using the Quick File Rename Instant Rename feature.
